I thought that my previous post would be my last for this year, but here I’ve got another one! I will still end this year in the cloud, but instead of in Windows Azure it will now be in Windows Intune! The new release. Wave “D”, of Windows Intune in combination with ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 will now allow us to create a connector between these two worlds and in this small post I will show the basic steps for this.
Prerequisites
Before it’s possible to setup the Windows Intune Connector there are a few prerequisites. Most of them are optional depending on which devices are going to be managed. To name them all:
- Create a Windows Intune subscription.
- (Optional) Create a APNs certificate for iOS.
- (Optional) Supply Windows RT Sideloading Keys
- (Optional) Request/Buy a Windows Phone 8 Code Signing certificate.
- (Optional) Create a and code-sign the the Windows Phone 8 Company Portal App.
Configuration
The configuration consists of two parts. Part one is to setup a Windows Intune Subscription and part two is to setup the Windows Intune Connector.
Now let’s start with setting up the Windows Intune Subscription. Navigate to Administration > Overview > Hierarchy Configuration > Windows Intune Subscriptions, click Create Windows Intune Subscription and follow the next steps:
- On the Introduction page, click Next.
- On the Subscription page, Sign In to Windows Intune, select Allow the Configuration Manager console to manage this subscription and click Next.
- On the General page, Browse to <aUserCollection>, specify the company details and the color scheme for the company portal, select the Configuration Manager site code and click Next.
- On the Platforms page, select the enabled platforms (can also be configured later) and click Next.
- (Optional) On the Windows RT page, Browse to a Code signing certificate, Add a Sideloading key and click Next.
- (Optional) On the Windows Phone 8 page, Browse to a Code-signing certificate, Browse to a Company portal app and click Next.
- (Optional) On the iOS page, Browse to a APNs certificate and click Next.
- On the Summary page, click Next.
- On the Completion page, click Close.
When the Windows Intune Subscription is all setup, it’s time to setup the Windows Intune Connector. The Windows Intune Subscription will give an extra option in the Add Site System Role Wizard. Navigate to Administration > Site Configuration > Servers and Site System Roles, select Add Site System Roles on the Home tab, in the Server group and follow the next steps:
- On the General page, click Next.
- On the Proxy page, click Next.
- On the System Role Selection page, select the Windows Intune Connector and click Next.
- On the Summary page, click Next.
- On the Completion page, click Close.
Results
As always I like to show the results, and as always there are lots of things to show, but there is nothing better then a nice screenshot that shows the integration. Then I still have multiple choices, but I think the one of the Mobile Device Management page in Windows Intune says the most. As I selected Allow the Configuration Manager console to manage this subscription during the integration it will now show Mobile device management authority: Set to Configuration Manager.
Nice guide. Thx man!
Be aware of configuring InTune in SCCM using windows server 2012 and IE 10. Solution – just install only console on your windows 2008 R2 + IE 8 ( I heard that IE 9 is also ok).
Thanks! I did manage to configure it on Windows Server 2012, but it did cost me like ten tries to connect to Windows Intune.
I followed the instructions and was able to complete the integration. My question at this point is am I supposed to see my intune devices on SCCM console? If yes then please guide me where and how I can see them. Thank you very much for your guide.
No, you’re not supposed to see them.
@Peter
How did you make this on Windows Server 8 ? Did you change any settings in your operating system? I was trying like a hundred times without success.
Also, how u can manage InTune objects using SCCM? I have a few win 8 tablets connected to InTune and i would like to manage them by SCCM… but how can i do this?
Nope, I didn’t change anything on my Operating System to make it possible… Managing devices is mainly focused on the user, for a lot more information see: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj884158.aspx
